Part of post-modern thought, which I have never understood, is that there are no right or wrong answers. If that were true, there would be no such thing as facts. But facts are real. Two plus two equals four. A post-modern person might say that is just your opinion. But that is a fact and not an opinion.

Some of our political discourse has been confused by those who want to claim that some ridiculous theory is a fact. Here are a few of the more bizarre ideas that some people claim as fact.

The Earth is flat

Species don’t evolve

The earth is not getting warmer

These are matters of scientific fact, not opinion. To deny them is the dame as saying that you don’t believe in gravity.

Here are some more strange opinions not facts.

Masks don’t matter

Humans never landed on the moon

The Caucasian race is superior to other races.

There is some widespread organization intent on Jews taking over the world.

Sometimes manipulated media leads people to believe things that are absurd. Take Q Anon for instance. A woman was interviewed on CBS News who claimed to have seen a video of Hillary Clinton abusing, murdering, and drinking the blood of children. This is false. This is not a matter of opinion. It is a group of people being manipulated into accepting falsehoods as truth for political reasons.

It’s time we stop being so easily manipulated into accepting things that are not true. There are some things that are opinions.

Who should you vote for?

Capital Punishment?

What is good music?

Pepsi or Coke?

Which ball team is the best? (That seems to matter less than it used to compared to the real issues facing us.)

Those are opinions. We can differ on the answer to those questions. But do not lose sight of the fact that two plus two equals four. Some things are true whether you want To believe it or not.
